Wall Beds & Specialty Items
In the past few years there’s been an interest in wall beds. Goodwin Mill & Cabinet has built a few of these in Parade showcase homes and the response has been overwhelming. Wall beds aren’t new by any standard. They were invented in the late 1800s by William L. Murphy. This is why they are also called Murphy Beds. These beds are popular in areas where floor space is limited. Especially in close quarter urban areas. America’s fascination with Murphy Beds has waned somewhat in recent years. They’re still the bed of necessity in some situations.
Interest in the Murphy Bed in the Southern Utah area increased after Goodwin Mill & Cabinet revealed their take on it during the 2010 Parade Of Homes show. While planning a new layout for an upcoming Parade home one builder we work with said the Wall Bed had come to be expected by attendees and was considered a highlight. It had to be included in any design we came up with.
Goodwin craftsmen have experimented with many ideas over the years. Two of the Goodwin brothers even built a Teardrop Trailer one year. They’re also developing a line of handcrafted toys. Over the years the brothers have built rocking horses, doll houses, furniture for children and rubber band guns. The new traditional toys are spinning tops, a twirling flyer and game boards with chess pieces.
It’s also a family tradition during the holiday season to build ornate cedar chests. These decorative chests are perfect for storing fragile and delicate possessions while keeping them smelling heavenly.
Picture frames, solid wood doors, bookshelves, exterior shutters, headboards and bed frames are other items the shop manufactures. All of these are built to order.
Goodwin Mill & Cabinet are perfect for any custom specialty item you’ve wanted to build. Call to set up your appointment today.
